Afternoon coronavirus news 🔵 Senior doctors criticise 19 July reopening as 'irresponsible' 🔵 WHO says world nowhere near through the worst of COVID 🔵 New COVID hotspots revealed with North East and Yorkshire dominating Live COVID19 updates 👇

Find out what's happening where you live in the chart below.A total of 109 deaths with COVID-19 on the death certificate were reported in England and Wales in the week ending 2 July, according to the Office for National Stastics. But it's still the highest total since 151 deaths were recorded in the week to 14 May.

The chairman of the SAGE modelling subgroup Spi-M told BBC Radio 4's Today programme:"We've never seen a peak before that hasn't been controlled. Sputnik V has been registered in 67 countries globally with a total population of over 3.5 billion people, according to the Russian Direct Investment Fund.US regulators add new warning to Johnson & Johnson vaccine over 'small possible risk' of syndrome

However, nearly 13 million Americans have received the shot - highlighting how low the risk could be. He said there's now a"high level of uncertainty" about how things will pan out after Monday but the government has to be"honest with people". Asked about the government's switch to personal responsibility, he told Radio 4's Today programme:"All this doesn't quite fit with the position that was taken by Britain, along with other nations, some months ago when there was a real effort to try to prevent large numbers of people getting the disease, partly because of the risk of death and partly because of the recognition of the risk of long COVID.

He warns it will be an"uncomfortable next few weeks" as the government is"putting its foot on the accelerator".Andy Burnham has criticised the government for creating the wrong kind of messaging ahead of the lifting of restrictions next Monday. "Did you not see what happened at Wembley Way at the weekend? There was no social distancing, no one was wearing a mask," Sky presenter Niall Paterson says.

Speaking to Sky's Niall Paterson, he says"there's no perfect time" to open up - repeating the message from Boris Johnson last night - and that we'll have to"live with the virus and return to normal but still be cautious". He added:"We're able to open in this way because nightclubs in particular are among the best-equipped venues in the hospitality sector, and indeed were even prior to the pandemic, for the exact safety measures that are required to reduce the spread of the virus.

BMA council chair Dr Chaand Nagpaul said:"It's irresponsible - and frankly perilous - that the government has decided to press ahead with plans to lift the remaining COVID-19 restrictions on 19 July. All Scottish adults will have been offered their first vaccine dose by Monday, and it will have been three weeks since the over-50s have been double-jabbed.
