Lee Haynes, 44, and partner Jo Woodley, 45, opened their post one morning to find they had been issued with a fine of almost £11,000 for unpaid gas bills.
After contacting the ombudsman, they were told to "wait". Lee added: "It was very strange. After a few months we had bills for everything but not gas. They were later told they had 30 days to pay and have since signed up with a major energy firm. Lee said: "I just don't understand.
