Paul Molineux, who has terminal cancer, and wife Dawn celebrated the milestone at a local eatery, unaware that staff had a surprise in store
A couple who fell in love as young teenagers were left in tears after a lovely following their kind gesture on their 50th wedding anniversary. Paul Molineux, who is battling terminal cancer, met wife Dawn on a blind date when they were just 14 and 16, hitting it off instantly and being together ever since.
They were shown to their seat by waiter James Davies after entering the Merseyside eatery to a written display highlighting it was the long-term lovebirds' anniversary. James spoke to the couple about their anniversary and about how they met, as well as the terminal cancer Paul was diagnosed with in January.
Aquarium business boss Paul, 68, told the Liverpool Echo: "We went to Hickory's in Southport for a 50th wedding anniversary meal. When you book the table they asked if it was something special, so we put down that it was our anniversary. Top news stories today "When he put the bill down we opened it and it said happy anniversary, the bill is on us. It was £80 too. I just saw the look on my wife's face from across the table and thought have they got this wrong. She more or less broke into tears. We were gobsmacked. We had to go and find the bloke. We said you're joking aren't you?"
