The park and ride zones at Ayr Racecourse descended into chaos with one family describing it as 'pandemonium.'
Visitors to the weekend's Ayr Show have slammed poor traffic management after they waited almost four HOURS to escape a paid car park.
Police had to wade in to deal with the mess as darkness descended, with stewards feeling the full brunt of rage from exhausted drivers, as night time fell. Leigh and David Colquhoun described the scenes at the Racecourse as “pandemonium.” The grandparents from Glasgow took their granddaughter and pregnant daughter to the Ayr Show for a fun day out.
"It's put us off ever coming back, if it's being run by the council. There were three central lanes at the Racecourse and we were in the middle. From 6.40pm onwards we just never moved.“As we got nearer the front someone said to me the police are here now, they’ve taken over. It was a real shock that the police weren’t in charge of this from the beginning, normally at any major sporting event or concert you would see the police directing traffic.
Leigh added: “You were just left to your own devices. Some people just ditched their cars and walked to McDonald’s so they could get their kids something to eat.
