Amid the relentless Marc Marquez rumours, current Gresini Ducati rider Fabio di Giannantonio gave a reminder of his MotoGP potential by matching his career best during a competitive weekend in Japan.
The Italian was quick throughout the Motegi round: A strong sixth in Friday practice and then qualifying before equalling his best MotoGP finish with eighth in the Sprint.
“We will bring this positive energy to the next races and we arrive at a moment in the calendar where the races are [in quick succession], so let’s see.”Should Marc Marquez indeed move to Gresini alongside brother Alex next season, could di Giannantonio swap over to Honda? “If we don’t have a seat for next year [here] and Lucio [Cecchinello] has a place for me, for sure I will take the opportunity with open arms,” di Giannantonio said.
“So I don’t think [Honda] will always be in a tough moment in the future. So why not grab another opportunity?
