Natalie Mottram warned her criminal friend that the EncroChat phone network had been hacked putting a top secret operation at risk
A corrupt police analyst who tipped off her criminal friends about a major operation walked straight into a trap set by detectives investigating her.
By 2020, Mottram's role was to conduct threat assessments of organised crime groups and she was briefed on the details of Operation Venetic, along with a solemn warning about not discussing details of the sensitive operation. On that day, her bosses asked her to analyse an intelligence log referring to Kay, who was the partner of Mottram’s close friend Leah Bennett, 38. But the log was bogus and Mottram was under surveillance.
The prosecution suggested the call was made to set up a meeting between Kay and the man, because shortly after they met at a supermarket car park where they walked around talking for 20 minutes before returning to their vehicles and leaving. The prosecution argued that Mottram, of Vermont Close in Great Sankey, had "clearly betrayed" information about the secret Operation Venetic investigation.
