Coronation Street's boss has shared the reasons behind bringing Stephen Reid back and turning him into the soap's latest villain amid viewers' frustration over the storyline. Some fans of the ITV soap have not been shy at sharing their dismay at the character's secret murderous reign on the cobbles.

Stephen pushed him to his death in a wheelie bin after they got into a tussle on the Underworld factory steps.
It all starts on Monday, October 9, and as a new day dawns Weatherfield, Stephen is planning his escape from the cobbles and the trail of dead bodies, unaware that the residents of Coronation Street are putting together the pieces of a rather shocking jigsaw puzzle, one that could leave him seeing out his days behind bars, not running one on a beach.
Iain also spoke about the decision to bring Stephen back to Weatherfield as a villain - which was decided before Todd was asked to reprise his role - amid viewers' strong opinions on the character and the storyline. "Like a lot of our best ideas, it came from a storyline conference," he told us.
