A coroner will examine the cause of death of a baby who died in a Nottinghamshire hospital. Esmae Thomas was born on February 13 of this year and died on April 2, aged just one month old.
Sarah Wood, assistant coroner for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, opened an inquest into Esmae's death on Wednesday, October 11 at Nottingham Council House in Old Market Square. She explained the infant had died at King's Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield, but said a post-mortem investigation had reported the provisional cause of death as "unascertained".
Esmae's identity was confirmed by her mother, according to the coroner's officer. Ms Wood declared the inquest had officially been opened, before adjourning it for the completion of further inquiries.It will resume for a final hearing on a date which has yet to be fixed. The coroner added: "I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Esmae Lewis Thomas"
