Police hunt driver of stolen car after smash on busy Scots road sparks helicopter search

Cops are hunting for the driver of a stolen car after a crash on a busy Scots road sparked a police dog and air search.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to the A71 near Burnwynd, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at around 8.30pm on Thursday, July 27. A police helicopter was involved in the search for the driver with the force also deploying its canine unit in a bid to find the motorist behind the wheel of the red Renault Captur.

Images from the scene show the car on its side with its bonnet missing and extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. Debris strewn across the ground and the boot lay open.Top news stories today A spokesperson said: "Around 8.30pm on Thursday, July 27, police were called to the A71 near Burnwynd, following a report of a one-vehicle crash involving a red Renault Captur.

“Enquiries have established that the vehicle had been stolen and there was no trace of the driver in the area. Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”
