It was taken away to a police station
This huge machete was handed to police officers on the Clifton beat by a concerned member of the public. The village's Beat Team revealed the shocking weapon discovery in a Facebook post after a "tour of duty" in the area.
The bobbies on the beat were contacted about the menacing blade - pictured with it's sharp black blade and protective sheaf - after it was found, and it was "swiftly" recovered and carefully taken to Clifton Police Station. The officers were out and about with officials from tram operator NET and other local beat teams to support tram staff in and around Clifton.
The Facebook post reads: "We were also joined by the Clifton councillors Maria Watson, Kevin Clarke, Kirsty Jones, Andrew Rule as well as Claire McCurdy, resident development officer for Clifton East and Clifton West. We were also joined by police career advisor Nigel Best, head of involvement at Nottingham City Homes, Lisa Dawkins and Communities Inc's Michael Henry.
