The 8-year old girl had grown up in Cork

The body of an 8-year-old girl was recovered from the water along the shore at Fountainstown in Cork on Tuesday evening when a huge search operation came to a tragic end, Cork Beo reports.

A massive search operation involving the Coast Guard helicopter, Coast Guard mobile units, the Ballycotton and Crosshaven Lifeboats, Mallow Search and Rescue and even the Customs and Revenue boat and pilot boats from Cork Harbour joined in efforts. The Crosshaven RNLI said their volunteers had been "paged to a call we dread to hear. That of a missing child at Fountainstown beach."

"Our thoughts are with the little girl’s family. It is absolutely dreadful and everyone is heartbroken," Cllr McGrath told The Irish Mirror.
