Patients have been urged to call 999 or go to A&E if their lives are in danger as ambulance workers walk out tomorrow

NHS Providers’ director of strategy and policy, Miriam Deakin, said NHS leaders were “understandably worried” about another day of strike action tomorrow, after consistent action by nurses and ambulance workers this week.“The last thing trust leaders want is for care to be disrupted and they put very careful plans in place to mitigate the impact of these strikes on patients, but some disruption is inevitable including longer-than-usual waiting times for ambulances,” she said.

“It’s more important than ever that the Government sits down with the unions immediately to avert further strikes by talking about pay for this financial year,” she added. But he said the cumulative impact of strike action was concerning – especially when it came to cutting down lengthy waiting times for treatment.

On Sunday, Unison general secretary, Christina McAnea, said the solution to the crisis was “staring the Government in the face”, and she called on the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, to unlock funding to end the strikes.
