Customers throwing kebabs around was one of the issues raised by neighbours

A Derbyshire nightclub famous for being the first venue played by Cliff Richard has been allowed to extends its opening hours despite fears over noise and anti-social behaviour from guests. Repeatedly pressing neighbouring doorbells and throwing kebabs are among the issues that have been raised by some neighbours of The Regal Nightclub in Ripley.

An Amber Valley Borough Council licensing hearing on Monday approved the plans and despite fears from neighbours, Mr Oliver said he would work with residents to control the noise by listening to it from a neighbouring home.Piers Warne, representing Mr Oliver at the hearing, said other venues in the town remain closed, including the Hippodrome and Crib Bar nightclub, and that Ripley needed more “dancing space”.

But Christine Garner, an objector who lives in the same nearby flat block, said she was being disturbed by “everything you can imagine living close to a nightclub”. She said: “We don’t want it closed but there are changes that will make the issues better. Susan Crisp, another one of the objecting residents, told the hearing: “We want the business, we want Ripley to thrive, it is great that they have invested in the town.
