Manchester City lost 2-1 to Wolves at Molineux and they have now lost both of their games without the suspended Rodri this week.

A week ago Pep Guardiola played down the absence of Rodri from his Manchester City team for three games by insisting the Blues would still play with 11 men, even without the lynchpin of their midfield. It's not the quantity that would have concerned the City boss, but the quality.

When Kyle Walker was needlessly sent-off in a dead-rubber group game against RB Leipzig last season, he spent weeks on the naughty step. Guardiola would probably like to give Rodri the same treatment, but this horror show only served up a reminder of how indispensable he is. Nunes had said sorry to the Wolves fans this week, apologising for the way he forced through his move to the Etihad. Moving to a better job wouldn't be greeted with a cascade of boos and X-rated insults in any other industry, but this is football and Nunes was a villain in Wolverhampton on Saturday.

That made keeping possession all the more vital for City, but Mateo Kovacic's radar was out when he fired a pass into Phil Foden a yard or two away in the centre of the pitch. With too much pace on the misdirected pass, Wolves took over and Neto sprang clear down the right, out-pacing Nathan Ake's desperate dive, before trying to square the ball for Cunha, only for the cross to hit Dias and loop over Ederson.

Something needed to change for City but the sight of Oscar Bobb emerging at half-time and Nunes staying inside was a surprise. The £53million midfielder never shirked the challenge in the first half and he was by no means City's worst midfielder. Bringing Bobb on ahead of Jack Grealish also looked a big call, but the 20-year-old vindicated it.

But when Hwang, who should have been sent off on the stroke of half-time when catching Walker on the shin having already been booked, restored their lead, the corruption radar seemed to be broken.
