'One day I can go for a four-hour walk and have no issues at all. But the next day I'm crippled over in pain and can barely walk out of my front door'

“Unfortunately, this is something we need to look into,” she said, adding: “There’s no guidance on it.”

A chronic UTI patient said she got a flare-up on the second day of a fitness programme, and another said she has gained two sizes as her bladder “always flares during exercise”.Angela Dullaghan has resorted to doing seated yoga at home due to her chronic condition “Going into the pool to exercise aggravated my pain and symptoms and so I stopped doing that as well, she said.Chronic UTI sufferer and campaigner Carolyn Andrew added that she had to “give up exercise completely” for over four years while her infection was at its worst.

“This means that chronic and recurrent UTIs aren’t just causing pain, and being bad for your urinary health, they’re bad for your cardiovascular health because they’re preventing young, fit people from exercising,” she told“They’re preventing middle-aged people from exercising and it’s so important to stay active when you’re getting older.”

“Children with chronic UTI are frequently unable to exercise or play sports with their peers due to living in constant pain,” CUTIC added. Denise Rawls, interim head of communications at Endometriosis UK, said people with the condition do not need to stop exercising but it is important to “listen to your body and do what works for you”.

The illness can affect women, men, children and the elderly, and can leave them bedbound, feeling suicidal, and unable to work, sleep, leave the house or socialise with their friends and family.
