Crimestoppers have launched a campaign as we head into the festive season and have warned people to think twice before putting themselves and their children at risk
Everyone is trying to cut costs at the moment, especially when it comes to Christmas. But shoppers are being warned that a bargain isn't always the best idea.
Branded toys that are fake often contain toxic chemicals and are made of materials that can easily come apart. Counterfeit electronics are prone to overheating, catching fire, giving electric shocks and exploding.
Sue Davies, Which? head of consumer protection policy, said: "Cheap Christmas lights could be tempting for many of us trying to save money amid the cost of living crisis – but our latest research shows consumers could be putting themselves in danger due to online marketplaces failing to take safety seriously. 'The Government must make online marketplaces legally responsible for dangerous and illegal products sold through their sites so that people are better protected.
