Chris Woakes is targeting an England Ashes spot after turning down an offer from the IPL
Chris Woakes hopes his decision to play in the County Championship over the Indian Premier League will launch him into Ashes contention.
However, Woakes believes it is a move that gives him the best chance to reclaim his place in the England Test set-up – who have won 10 of their last 12 matches. His record with the ball is of particular note, given captain Stokes’ desire to have eight fit seamers going into the five-match showdown with Australia.
“It creates great competition for places which is where you want to be as a side,” Woakes said. “I’m sure Stokesy will be hoping he’s got all those guys to call upon.
