If Ferrari are to have any hope of making the podium in Japan, then Charles Leclerc says jumping McLaren at the start is key.

Less than a tenth of a second covered Piastri, Norris and Leclerc by the end of Q3, but Leclerc said McLaren had found a performance step in qualifying which Ferrari knew they could not match. “But all in all, honestly my lap in Q3, I don’t think there was much more there, so I don’t regret any choices we’ve made.”
“So if we pass them at the start, I think it will be difficult for them to pass us on track. If we don’t, then I think it will be difficult for us to pass them on track.
