Millwall fell out of the play-off places on the final day of last season following a madcap 4-3 defeat by Blackburn at The Den – a match the Lions had led 3-1 at the break. Boss Gary Rowett has said he wants his players to use that as “motivation” to achieve a top-six finish this season, and saw his side clinch a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough on the opening day.
Things have not gone to plan since, with a 4-0 defeat by League One Reading in the League Cup followed by a late home loss against Bristol City last Saturday. Carrow Road is far from the best place for Millwall to get back on track – the south-east London club have not won at Norwich in 22 trips in all competition stretching back 55 years to a triumph in the old Second Division.
