Nottingham's Victoria Centre has thanked shoppers "for their patience" after busy scenes in its car parks over the weekend. Many Christmas shoppers at the centre had to wait a significant amount of time to exit the car parks on Saturday and Sunday due to "heavy traffic".
A spokesperson for the Victoria Centre said: "Along with the rest of the city, our car parks experienced heavy traffic congestion in and out of the centre over the weekend. We had staff on hand to help support entry and exit to the site. "Thanks to all our visitors for their patience as we worked to get things moving." An update from Nottingham Travelwise - the traffic control centre for the area - showed that at around 3pm on Saturday, in addition to the Victoria Centre north and south car parks being full, Stoney Street, St James Street, Trinity Square, Euro Car Park and Maid Marian Way car parks were also full, while Broadmarsh was less than half full.Shoppers took to social media to share their frustration.
Sharing a similar incident from December 2021 regarding cars being stuck in the shopping centre, another tweeted: "This is happening again right now in Victoria Centre car park. Never seen it this bad."
