Patrick Roberts will be out injured until after the September international break with a minor hamstring strain.The former Manchester City winger was a big hit with fans during his spell in Glasgow after making close to 80 appearances for the Scottish champions. During his time north of the border he netted 18 goals and provided 26 assists. Rodgers is said to like the Black Cats ace and is one of the names interesting him in his pursuit of a winger.

Providing an injury update on Roberts, a club statement read: "Sunderland AFC confirms that Patrick Roberts has sustained a minor hamstring strain.
"The 26-year-old, who has started all of the club’s Sky Bet Championship fixtures this season, picked up the injury during Saturday’s victory over Rotherham United. "Following a period of rehabilitation, Roberts is expected to return to action following the September international break."
