Chorley care home 'not always safe' say inspectors who found 'black particles' in bedroom
A resident with a headache could not get over-the-counter pain killers and dirt was found in some rooms at a Chorley care home, according to the latest watchdog inspection. The Gables Care Home on Southport Road was inspected by a surprise visit by the Care Quality Commission on September 28 this year, who found flaws in safety as well as how the home was being run.

The inspectors said on face masks: "The registered manager told us this was no longer mandatory and staff wore masks when supporting people with personal care and support." Government guidance at the time stated that all care workers should wear them and visitors should be encouraged to wear them in care homes.
On its website, the CQC lists flawed infection prevention control measures found at the home as shielding, PPE usage, premises, staffing and policies and said the overall judgement was that it was still "requiring improvement", following an inspection in February this year. The care home was previously placed in special measures by a damning report in April 2021, which said a resident had threatened staff with knives from its kitchen.
