A new dating show hosted by Clara Amfo uses astrology as a matchmaker 🔎 TV editor emilyrbakes asks: Make-believe – or worth a try?
You think you’ve met the love of your life. He’s got a good sense of humour, a nice smile, a good job, he’s kind, honest and you share the same values. Even your mum likes him. Sounds too good to be true, right? And often it is.
“It was quite big in the 80s, but [today’s popularity] is like nothing I’ve ever seen,” says Knight-Waite. “There are more young people becoming astrologers, too, like Colin; he’s bringing something really fresh to the table.” For those unfamiliar with astrology, it’s the idea that the position the planets were in at the time of and in relation to your place of birth determines your personality.
Astrology can be as complicated as you like. There are houses and degrees – your planets can be in trines, squares, sextiles to other planets and there’s plenty of other lingo that is beyond my limited understanding. “It’s all mathematical,” grins Oddie. But can the stars really help you find a romantic partner? Amfo thinks so.” People fall in love with someone because they’reor because they earn a certain salary per year. We can choose partners based on the shallowest things.
She trusts in the process wholeheartedly. “Every issue that comes up between our couples is right there in their birth charts. We have a Sagittarius, who are all about freedom, and a Scorpio, who like to possess, together, which has become a real issue.” Should the experts have paired them then? That’s missing the point, says Knight-Waite. “It’s about finding those differences and being armed with the knowledge to work through them together.
