The Queen Consort’s crown for the coronation will not feature the controversial Koh-i-noor diamond.
It marks the first time in almost three centuries that an existing crown has been worn, rather than a newly commissioned piece.
But it was replaced by a replica in 1937 when the original was moved to the Queen Mother’s crown for her and George VI’s coronation. St Edward’s Crown, which will be used for Charles’ coronation, has returned to public display at the Tower following modification work.– is said to have made the decision to wear an existing crown in the interests of sustainability and efficiency.
