The centre provides important services
One of the people behind two thriving community centres says the hubs are 'buzzing' with activity. At the Netherfield LOCO Centre and St George’s church, it isn’t clear who’s a volunteer and who gets paid because everyone is putting in the hours to serve the community.
“Mortgages have gone up but all of the clubs are helping to sustain everything. We haven’t lost any groups, we have scouts, brownies, theatre, youth clubs and singing.Tina continued: “Last winter, with government support, we coped. Everyone was mindful to keep heating and lights off in rooms that weren’t being used but we swallowed it - and we’re hoping that this winter will be the same.
The centre is always thinking about new ways to help the community. Soon, there will be new benches installed outside for young people to have more places to utilise. Tina continued: “All our volunteers work for the community, you wouldn’t know the difference between our paid staff and our volunteers, they all do so much.”
Tina said: “It was an honour for them [the Prime Minister] to choose here, no matter what government it was, it wasn’t a political thing they had just come to speak with the children and why they enjoy the centre so much.
