Having gone into the last-16 draw for the League Cup as unseeded, St Mirren have already improved their chances of making the quarters by avoiding one of Scotland’s top five clubs from last season.
The Saints have even got home advantage on their side, with the SMiSA having been turned into a fortress over the last 12 months. But what has been evident in St Mirren’s opening fixtures this season is a switch to a three up front, with the Paisley side almost playing with two central midfielders and two wide men supporting one striker when in possession.
