Brits heading to Italy issued 'extreme weather' warning by Foreign Office

The Foreign Office has issued a warning to Brits travelling to Italy this summer as the country battles fires and extreme weather.

Wind-fed fires have spread through brush near Palermo in Sicily and there have been other blazes on the Mediterranean island, including near the seaside tourist resort of Cefalu. There were also wildfires in Calabria, including in the rugged Aspromonte mountains.Last week, Palermo’s international airport temporarily shut down as flames from a wildfire approached, while the northern region of Lombardy has seen powerful storms causing flooding and power outages.

The UK Foreign Office has now updated its travel advice for Italy, warning anyone travelling to the country about the extreme temperatures and the impact they are having.
