Shortages of semiconductors and other materials needed for vehicle repairs have driven up repair costs.
“Garages don’t tend to be as visible as shops or post offices, for example, so people don’t notice when they disappear. But lack of supply and increased demand has led to long wait times for repairs even though people are paying increased costs.” These tend to have more sophisticated machinery and are therefore more costly to repair. The higher cost of repairs is being spread across the board to motorists, Yates said, as opposed to just EV owners.
