Dexter Bowen got into trouble in the Old Harbour of Pembrey on 9 August. Fortunately, 12-year-old Theo Pulman was on hand to call the RNLI for help and provide life-saving advice.
A nine-year-old boy has thanked his young rescuer who helped to save his life at sea.
Dexter Bowen found himself being dragged out to sea by the tide at the Old Harbour of Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, WestHe was spotted by a 12-year-old Theo Pulman who immediately stepped in to help, by staying with him and telling Dexter to float on his back. Theo remembered the safety advice from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as his grandad, uncle and cousin are volunteer crew members at the local lifeboat station.Chris Cousens, the RNLI's water safety lead for Wales, said the outcome"could have been very different" without Theo's help.The RNLI hopes ahead of the bank holiday weekend that people adopt the float technique if they get into difficulty.
The charity says people who find themselves in trouble in water should lie on their back, relax and float.The 12-year-old hopes to follow in his family's footsteps and volunteer at the lifeboat. "I can definitely see myself volunteering for the lifeboat when I'm older alongside my uncle, cousin and my grandad," he said.Crew member Nathan Gower, who is Theo's cousin, said he was"unbelievably proud"."By remembering the RNLI's float to live message, he saved Dexter's life."
