Fifty-eight people were involved in the incident which killed two people, including a 14-year-old girl.
Emergency crews were called to the crash at 8am on Friday, September 29 following reports a school bus carrying children had overturned. The vehicle was taking pupils to West Kirby Grammar and Caldy Grange Grammar School in Wirral when the collision took place.
The Liverpool Echo reports that two further children were taken from the scene to Alder Hey Children's Hospital and two were taken to Arrowe Park. Police have now also confirmed a 14-year-old boy has suffered life-changing injuries in the crash and remains in hospital. The Birkenhead Tunnel will not close as scheduled at 9pm tonight and will remain open while the M53 is closed.
