Health officials have warned parents to be on the lookout for symptoms of Strep A and see a doctor if their child is getting worse A 12-year old boy is the latest child to die after becoming infected with Strep A and the first secondary school child to die from the infection, it has been reported.MailOnlineIt comes after the UK Health Security Agency warned parents to be on alert for symptoms and issued fresh guidance in the face of a rising number of cases.
In England, it had recorded five deaths of under-10s since September, it said in a release on Friday before the latest report from London. One other child has been identified as having died from the disease in Wales. He added in a message to the parents: “Any doubts, if they don’t look right, just scoop them up and take them [to seek medical advice]. The UKHSA said it was up to local health protection teams to decide whether parents of children at schools where there have been confirmed infections should be advised to keep them at home.No affected school has yet said healthy children should stay at home. According to information published by UKHSA, children with scarlet fever – where Strep A causes a sandpaper-type rash – should be kept at home.
