Blackpool Zoo's missing pelican spotted on Fylde beach but evades capture from keepers
The young 4ft pelican which is missing from Blackpool Zoo after getting spooked by seagulls is still on the loose after more than a week.
The rare bird has been seen in various areas along the Fylde coast including Blackpool's Stanley Park and Lytham estuary. Fylde Council confirmed the sighting on the sands at Granny's Bay on Friday morning at around 8am, which coincided with the high tide times. The zoo has vowed to continue searching from "dawn to dusk every day" and they "remain hopeful" the bird will be found.
Blackpool Zoo said: "We would like to thank the public and the press for their help in the search for our pelican. We can now confirm that a number of sightings have been reported to us in recent days and keepers are working round the clock to follow up any leads.
