After weeks of relentless rain and cold, for a few hours, the clouds parted and the sun beat down on the seaside town. A rare day of welcome warmth and blue skies.

"This is not the worst summer, but it is one of them." Andy Beuamont runs the deckchair hire and snow cones stalls close to the Tower opposite the Golden Mile. It is usually a prime spot for passing and beach-going tourists, but when asked how summer trade is going, Andy said bluntly: "absolute c**p".
Besides the weather, business owners are also being affected by rising energy and supply costs. Mark Langton who runs the Traditional Fish and Chip Shop on Central Pier blames the cost of living crisis and people being less able to afford days out. "It won't come down again, it will just keep going up. I've had to cut staff and put prices up, we won't have a choice. I am hopeful, that's all we can do, stay hopeful things will get better.
