It gets spenny
Running the Blackpool Illuminations is expensive business, with thousands of lights glowing for four months of the year coming in at a significant cost. And it is no secret energy bills have sky-rocketed along with what feels like everything else, as the national struggles through a cost of living crisis.
It is too soon to confirm how much the 2023 illuminations, which will run from September 1 to January 1, 2024, are set to cost. However, the world-famous event cost a whopping £1.8m for their four-month run in 2022. It was also revealed how they were paid for and who helped to fund them. Illuminations organisers combated rising energy costs in a number of ways, while also receiving outside funding.
