'I'm very excited'
Work has started on an £85,000 revamp of an East Lancashire green space giving it a community orchard and a CCTV security upgrade.
The scheme will see improvements to the multi-use games area, including upgrading the pitch lines for football, basketball, netball and hockey. Five new pieces of outdoor gym equipment will be installed as part of an ‘active trail’ throughout the park to encourage visitors to make use of the entire green space.
Cllr Jim Casey, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s assistant environment boss, said: “We’re incredibly lucky to be surrounded by fantastic green, open spaces in the borough and we want to do everything we can to make the most of them. The improvements at Roe Lee Park are a great example of close collaboration between council and community, providing activities and facilities that the parks friend’s group have been keen to see.
