Blackburn care home staff slammed for giving residents painkillers when they don't need it

Staff at a care home in Blackburn has come under fire after a health watchdog found some residents were being fed medicines for no reason.

Two people were given paracetamols regularly every three hours instead of the recommended four hour gaps. Inspectors raised concerns of a risk of harm from paracetamol administered in this way. Call bell systems in care homes allows residents to ask for help as and when needed however residents in this house were left without a functioning system. Inspectors saw the system was not being used meaning people did not have access to a working and safe call bell system to support them with their needs.

A change of management was raised in the reports. CQC inspectors spoke to both staff and relatives of residents about their views on the leadership disruptions.
