Black women rally behind Dr Shola after far right threats by LeahMahon_

Labour MP Bell Riberio-Addy has added her name to the letter, but it is understood that many other high profile women who have backed the demands have chosen to remain anonymous due to fear of a racist backlash.

Black women in particular were found to be subject to appalling levels of racial harassment, intimidation and sometimes violence. “In the context of International Women’s Day, the fact that a prominent British Black woman, her husband and, alarmingly, her children have been targeted by violent racists has shocked and angered many in our community. The trauma being inflicted on the Mos-Shogbamimu family, particularly the children, is chilling,” the letter says.

The groups that have backed the letter likened the threats of “we are watching you” to “it is only a matter of time” similar to intimidation tactics used in 1930’s Germany and blasted the normalisation of racist abuse being viewed as freedom of speech. “Our community and the wider public are shocked and appalled by the rise in misogynistic violence and race hate crimes generally, and this crime in particular. Black women, families and organisations must feel confident that prescribed organisations and racial terrorists will face the full force of the law where they are engaged in criminal acts of violence or intimidation,” the letter continues.
