Bird flu outbreak latest: Government eases restrictions in North Lincolnshire ⛔

Restrictions which were put in place after bird flu was found at two North Lincolnshire farms have been removed. All birds were culled after the highly contagious virus was identified on separate occasions in May.

The government also reported at the same time that two workers had tested positive for bird flu, although it wasn’t confirmed whether the events were linked. It was announced today that the North Lincolnshire protection zones - which prohibit the movement of birds - would be stood down. The government has offered reassurance that there isn’t any sign of bird flu being transmitted between humans, and the workers are believed to have caught it from infected birds.

“However, we know already that the virus can spread to people following close contact with infected birds and this is why, through screening programmes like this one, we are monitoring people who have been exposed, to learn more about this risk.”You can report dead birds to APHA on 03459 33 55 77.
