The first of which became the Nicki Minaj collab Feeling Myself which was released that same year, with the other beat remaining on the back burner for years to come, finally becoming Thique in 2022.: ‘I had to sit on that beat for eight years! That’s the way the game goes sometimes.
‘I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in the game and certain people will perceive like, “Oh, where’s Hit-Boy been? What’s Hit-Boy been doing?” ‘But then I’m sitting on stuff like Thique that just hasn’t materialised yet. Y’all don’t even know how ahead I really am… I’ve been holding onto legendary stuff, and there’s plenty more.’Beyonce had initially come up with a few ideas for the beat but put it to one side until Renaissance, adding a separate beat for the first 36 seconds, made by Megan Thee Stallion collaborator Lil Ju.
Hit-Boy also worked with Bey on 2019’s Bow Down, for which he took direct inspiration from N****s in Paris.
