Thomas Dreelan also robbed a shop where he sprayed staff member with fire extinguisher
A North Belfast man who broke into a neighbour’s house and attacked him with a hatchet was today jailed for three years.
The victim sustained a cut to his head and wounds to his forearms and was taken to hospital for treatment to his non-life threatening juries. Two weeks later Dreelan was involved in a second incident when he robbed a convenience store in North Belfast of £64.50 in cash from the till. “A second shop assistant noticed that Dreelan was carrying a large kitchen knife with a yellow handle but he kept it in his back right trouser pocket and did not remove it during the course of the robbery.”
In a pre-sentence report, the Probation Service assessed Dreelan as a high likelihood of re-offending given his lengthy criminal record but stopped short of stating he was a danger to the public in future.
