Requiem mass will be held at St Joseph’s and St Peter’s RC Church, Newchurch on Wednesday, April 26 at 11.30am, followed by cremation at Burnley crematorium at 1pm, conducted by Father Simon Stamp. Ian Stuart Walkden Mr Ian Stuart Walkden, of Piccadilly Street, Haslingden, died on Friday, April 14, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 75.
Gladys died on April 5, after a long illness and will be greatly missed by her daughters and son-in laws, Jill and Colin Hodgson and Helen and Bryan Swan, and her beloved grandchildren, Joe Hodgson, Teia and Eryn Swan. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years, Jim Sandiford. Gladys took great comfort in her faith and church, and most people knew her and appreciated the many things she did for her local community. Above all, she found her greatest joy in her grandchildren’s achievements in life – celebrating every milestone with them.
Gladys was a remarkable woman with a passion and energy that touched many lives. In turn, she was surrounded by many people whose lives touched her. We are grateful for her generosity, kindness and caring, and dogged determination in living life to the full. Her wish was to be remembered not in sadness, but with a smile.
Wife to the late Michael, mother to daughters Lindsey and Suzanne. Grandmother to Joshua, Lauren, Megan, Charlotte, Bradley and Ronan, great-grandmother to Albert. Sister to Geoffrey and Susan. Tony initially trained as a Butcher in his father’s shop followed by a varied career as an auto mechanic, snap-on tools dealer before later becoming a kitchen fitter until retirement in 2009. In retirement he enjoyed his role as a Conservative councillor for Helmshore and loved Formula 1 motorsport.
