There's been a rush to judge the nine Rangers new boys over the first fortnight of the season and I’m well aware some of the early verdicts have been quite damning.
Jack Butland He has got off to a great start. When he made that save after just six minutes against Servette on Tuesday night I got flashbacks to Allan McGregor. Yes, Butland has had a stop start career over the last couple of years so there were some obvious question marks when he was brought in to fill Greegy’s gloves. But I’ve seen enough already to suggest he’s more than up to the job.
Leon Balogun He has also been added to the defensive mix and I’m delighted about that. The big man should never have been allowed to leave the club last summer. He might not be a starter but you can hang your hat on him whenever he’s required. For me, that one was a no brainer. True, he’s not set the heather on fire but there’s a player in there and it will be interesting to see if he can grab the bull by horns over the next few weeks because places are up for grabs.
Abdallah Sima Likewise, it’s fair to say Sima has had a tough introduction to the club. Some people were writing him after a couple of pre-season friendlies which was crazy, even by Scottish standards.
