Gosling reportedly has turned down several big IP gigs previously.also has no deal in place for a sequel. Apparently Warner Bros tried to secure a sequel deal with her in a directing capacity, but Gerwig's agents put that off until the movie came out. The same goes for Noah Baumbach, who co-wrote the movie with Gerwig.
What puts another dampener on any potential sequel is the ongoing writers' and actors' strike. No deals will be negotiated with any of the talent involved while the strikes are ongoing.
