What starts as an investigation into a six-year dry spell turns into a dissection of comedy world power plays and manipulation
One of the reasons Hagen hasn’t had sex for so long was their anxiety medication, which curtailed their arousal. “Have you ever watched porn until the end?” they ask us. “That’s bleak.”
This is the heart of the show, a gradual reveal of not one, but two crappy guys in comedy, and how they manipulated their way into covert relationships with Hagen, without the knowledge of their partners. Hagen shares their own love of gossip, letting us know that they’re desperate to reveal the identities of the Danish and British comedians who wronged them, but have been strongly advised against it. They play with this, doing a brilliant fake-out of accidentally letting slip one of the names.
With the latter affair, being strung along for so long and never having their desires validated left Hagen feeling shame around sex. It’s complex and honest, with some great punchlines at the expense of the man in question.
