Ten people have required urgent medical treatment after encounters with 'killer' Asian hornets
Ten people in Jersey have required urgent medical attention after being attacked by 'killer' Asian hornets in the UK this summer.
Asian hornet stings have led to the death of five people in France so far, with more victims throughout other European countries. He said yesterday: "After a record day for Asian Hornet Primary and/or Secondary nests yesterday their number stays at 77. The number of people confirmed as stung remains at ten."
The National Bee Unit, which works for Defra, has warned that while the hornets are dangerous to humans, they can also destroy bees as well. In the UK, teams from Devon's bee-keeping associations have been plastering posters across the place to warn people returning from places like the Channel Islands to check their vehicles for any stowaway insects.
Where do Asian hornets build their nests? The insects nests are built by a queen hornet, typically in sheds or outbuildings but are also frequently found inside bird boxes.
