It was polluted by sewage and 'unflushables'
Anglian Water has been slapped with an £871,000 fine after repeated failures led surrounding the pollution of three different waterways. The incidents took place at Anglian Water sites in Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire, and Northamptonshire, between May and September 2019.
It later emerged Anglian Water had put an operational warning sensor on the sewer but it was assigned to a completely different address in a nearby village. The sensor raised the alarm in good time, but Anglian Water initially sent the tanker to the wrong place as a result.This delay meant the water company missed the opportunity to minimise the pollution, which lasted for days and killed invertebrate life over a one and half kilometre stretch of the River Tove.
He added: “Water companies have a huge responsibility to proactively manage the resources they have been given a responsibility for.
