Joe Farrell with the latest from the angling scene

As we reach the height of what could be described as the end of the summer season, many anglers will be carefully preparing for a change in their approach. On the whole, as the climate changes and venues ‘cool’ given the winter approaching, fish will naturally become more lethargic and in all become less likely to respond to anything that two months ago would have met their every need.

Serious stuff to any newcomer or reader I’m sure, but I can assure everyone that most importantly, I can also identify as one who sincerely believes that fishing is also very much about having fun. Today as I reflect on a conversation with junior anglers last week, who have spent tens of pounds stocking up on lots of bait for a couple of sessions on a choice of venues, venues that I was informed also could also include the Leeds Liverpool canal that runs nearby their home.

There’s no sign of the pace in any way slowing down here as this venue is seeing huge weights still being taken. Maghull’s Matty Higgins took the honours on Sunday’s open as he produced another top performance.
