Ana Khouri is a woman designing jewellery for women; her pieces aren’t just made to dazzle, they’re ergonomic, allowing the wearer to feel physically strengthened by her designs.
No one is a better ambassador for her brand than Ana Khouri. When I meet the Brazilian jewellery designer at The Row’s Mayfair boutique – where she’s debuting the latest fine and high jewellery pieces in her “Raw” collection – she’s impeccably dressed in pieces from the Olsen twins’ utterly luxurious label.
If Khouri’s asymmetric pieces usually have a gleaming finish, it’s clear from the chunky 18-carat gold ring that she slides into my palm that there’s a new texture in town. When travelling to The Amazon to source the Fairmined Gold with which she created these pieces, Khouri was struck by the feeling of having her bare hands in rough soil as she knelt in the dirt searching for fragments of raw gold. “I was so moved by that sense of touch,” she explains.
