A Britain's Got Talent judge has issued a warning to her fans after revealing a scam targeting her and her followers. Amanda Holden is the latest victim of online scammers, with other stars like Holly Willoughby also having been targeted in the past.
The 52-year-old TV personality discovered a fraudulent account impersonating her on Instagram, using her name and photos without consent. This account was created with a very similar handle to the judge's authentic account, with two numbers being added at the end. The account claimed to be Amanda's back up account, and even featured a professional photo of the star. Amanda took to her legitimate Instagram account to express her frustration on her stories and alert her followers, reports The Daily Mirror.She encouraged her fans to block the account and shared a screenshot of the imposter profile. Amanda wrote: "This is a scam account block it."
The BGT judge revealed that several of her followers had been asked for money by the scammers. Questioning the motives behind such scams, asking: "Why do people do it?" At the time of Amanda's warning, the fake account had already followed 257 fans, with 62 unsuspecting followers reciprocating. Celebrities like Dawn French and Martin Lewis have also fallen prey to scams involving unauthorised use of their names or images in deceptive advertisements.
