Supermarket chain Aldi is planning to build a new store in Glasgow.
The firm is proposing a new development which will create 35 new jobs and work during the constructionAldi said it carried out research and consultation in the area, writing to more than 2000 households, and in-person events in the community and said it found there was strong support and demand for a new supermarket in the area., will be built at Boghall Road in Broomhouse near Baillieston.
It comes as the Glasgow Times revealed that rival chain Lidl is planning a new store in Anniesland in the West End.It will create a 1666 sqm foodstore, including staff welfare and storage areas. It will also include 95 parking bays, including 76 standard, eight parent and child, seven accessible and four electric vehicle spaces.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “We are pleased to be bringing forward our proposals for a new store in Broomhouse.store in Broomhouse and the surrounding area, with 90% of respondents writing to confirm their support for our proposals.“An Aldi store would greatly benefit the area, bringing significant investment along with 35 new jobs, whilst supporting other local businesses through our investment in the Scottish food and drink sector.
“We are looking forward to continuing our engagement with the local community over the coming weeks.”
